On April 26th and 27th, the IE Private Equity and Venture Capital Club was hosting 10 current Master in Finance, Master in Advanced Finance and MBA students in London for the 2018 London Private Equity Trek.
The Private Equity club has arranged meetings with Aurelius, Bain & Company, Macquarie Capital, LCM Partners, XIO Group and Raine Group, in addition to meetings with KEA and PER two of the most prestigious private equity recruiting firms in London. The Private Equity club organizes two London Treks per year to present opportunities to current students. To be selected for the trip, there is an application and selection process to select the most talented candidates. This year’s class includes 10 candidates with eight nationalities who have or will work for various investment banks, consulting and asset management firms, such as JP Morgan, RBC Capital Markets, Edmond de Rothschild, Société Générale, SwissRe, Perron & Partners and other candidates are self-made entrepreneurs. Besides the office visits, the club was hosting networking drinks for the group, along with a group of alumni and prospective students in London.

Marvin Müller and Saber Rad, the current co-presidents of the private equity club, launched the first trip in fall of 2017. The new network opened selected student the opportunity to interview with private equity firms and for Saber to secure a position at a top 10 global investment bank: “The trip changed my perspective about world of Private Equity and I want to do anything I can to pursue a career in Private Equity, even if it means working 100+ hours a week at an investment bank to gain the necessary skills”.
The Private Equity Club strives to create a network for IE Business School students in London and build relationships with prestigious firms to create career opportunities upon graduation. The alumni network within the PE Club is strong, and some have joined firms such as BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, RBC Capital Markets, Macquarie, 3i Group, and many more.
Leopold Dumont, current MIF student, says: “This trip reinforced my willingness to work in the Private Equity Industry. It enabled to know more about the career path to follow in order to break into this ever-challenging industry”
Felix Herrneder, current MIAF student says: “The trip was a great opportunity to get in touch with a variety of people from the PE industry in London. The carefully selected set of companies we visited comprised classic PE funds along with a corporate VC fund, an infrastructure fund as well as the PE arm of a leading strategy consultancy and a headhunter focused on PE recruiting. Hence, the trip did not only extend my network, it gave me also a better understanding of how the PE market works.”
This is neither the first, nor the last event of the club. Previous events included e.g. a LBO modeling workshops, the 1st prize in the LSE alternative investment conference in London, joining the Wharton Buyout Competition in New York and having many interesting talks including e.g. a panel on the topic “more than just an app” on IE’s venture day with the founder of Goiko Grill and Cemex Ventures, as well as discussions panels and talks of professionals from many renowned private equity firms such as KKR, Blackstone, 3i, Aurelius, Trilantic Capital, Capital Group, etc. The next event to watch is the IE Private Equity Day with great speakers from firms such as Goldman Sachs, HIG Capital, Kibo Ventures, Axon Ventures.
